Ras Shiloh-Only King Selassie

*Review by “Buju M”
Ras Shiloh comes with a fantastic new album - `Only King Selassie ‘, already hailed by some as one of the top roots albums of this year.
Produced by the legendary King Jammy at his Waterhouse studio, this set features 15 brand new tracks bearing titles such as `Rasta Man To Africa, `Praises to Jah’, `United We Stand’ and `So Much Heathen’, which gives an indication of the rootical nature of the tunes on the album. With a mixture of new and revived classic Jammy rhythm’s such as “I Love King Selassie’ and `Sleng Teng’.

This set follows on in a similar vein to Sizzla’s `Waterhouse Redemption’ and Natural Black’s `Jah Guide’ - both recent highly acclaimed Greensleeves albums also produced by King Jammy.

Over the past decade Ras Shiloh, originally hailing from Brooklyn, has established himself as a top international artist, with 5 well-received albums under his belt and regular appearances on Jamaican pre-release singles on labels such as Digital B, Penthouse, Massive B, Maximum Sounds, Lion Vibes, amongst others. Ras Shiloh performs regular shows across the U.S and Europe.`Only King Selassie’ is must for all serious reggae buyers or even anyone with a passing interest in the current roots revolution.
*I just had to add that the track ‘Mama Africa’ with Lutan Fyah is definitely a highlight.

The Abyssinians-Satta Massagana (Deluxe Edition) 2007 released…

The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana

Woohoo!…Another very nice roots reggae release to add to the collection. This is an old album that’s been re-released (again) as a ‘deluxe edition’ with four more tracks than the original. In 1993 Heartbeat Records remixed this album’s original eight tracks and added some gems to the tracklist. Once again, a new version, with even more tracks. This is a must have for any reggae fan. With classics like “Declaration of Rights”, “Abendigo”, and of course the title track “Satta Massagana”, this is sure to please. This is one of those albums that plays well from cover to cover.
For anyone that hasn’t added ‘The Abyssinians’ to their collection yet, this is an excellent album to do it with.

Enjoy…

Ky-Mani Marley’s album “Radio” review…

October 25th, 2007 | Category: Hip-Hop, Reggae

Ky-Mani Marley-Radio

First reaction: Booo!
Man, this is a great example of when an artist has a dope voice, talent, and a name to market itself, but still comes out with a stinker. The sad thing about this album is that it’s an obvious attempt to appease the MTV and radio gods. Besides track number 5, which is titled ‘Hustler’, I don’t think I’ll be listening to this album again. The top 40 ring it’s got to it will most likely keep this one shelved.
Ok…maybe I’m being extra harsh on Ky-Mani….but after calling the track “Warriors” (off his last album; Milestone, 2004) one of the tightest tracks of 2004, I admit, I had high hopes.
If you dig radio-friendly rap and R&B, you might actually really dig this.

…it’s just not for me…
