‘Grimace Love’ – Recomended Hip-Hop Listening…

November 21st, 2007 | Category: Hip-Hop

grimace love - the zig zag man cover

About 8 months ago I heard a single (title: ‘It’s All Over’) from this dude named ‘Grimace Love’ and was immediately inspired to hunt down everything homeboy had ever released. To my disapointment, I found nothing. As any of my friends know, I’m pretty good at finding music, so if I couldn’t find it, it pretty much meant it didn’t exist….heheheh.  Well, I just put the name in memory and hoped I’d be seein more from him soon. Then I got a hold of the above pictured album. It’s actually just a ‘hype’ album to get people stoked on him before his ‘real’ album (‘Perception’) comes out. The first track is a hip-hop weed ANTHEM called ‘The Zig Zag Man ft DJ Dopey’.  It’s an example of how hip-hop should be done….right down to the funny-ass Chappelle samples from the movie ‘Half-Baked’ (killer movie, by the way).

Grimace Love is another dope export from our neighbors in the North: ‘Canadia’ (inside joke).  Luckily, he’s keepin it locked down like some other Canadian favorites; Saukrates, Rascalz, and Classified.

This release isn’t fire cover to cover, but it’s got some definite bangers. And since this is just the ‘pre’ album, I got high hopes for the real deal. Anyway…I wanted to post this up, let the peeps know who they should be keepin an eye out for and post a link to this track that got me so hyped. Also, I found a video he did for a song titled ‘At First Sight’. Click to peep game.

Peace, enjoy,

House Painting…MRK style pt.II…

Berdz_House-Ogre_De_MRK

Here’s another painting that Berd and I just did. This is actually in a room that’s about 18 ft x 12 ft.  My camera took some awful pictures for some reason, so this is just a crappy preview.  Berd has better pics, so he’ll be making a better sewn-together version (hopefully soon :O)
This painting wraps onto three of the room’s walls…so it’s kinda awkward looking in this, especially since I just threw this together quickly (no reason to take a lotta time with bad pics).

House painting…MRK style…

Berd’s_garage-MRK_weeds

Wow….this seems old already. I just checked the date and realized that we painted this back in June. Berd cleared out a wall in his garage and we busted some ‘on the spot’ freestyle steez.  This is what came out.
Hopefully sometime soon we’ll be back out there putting something new up.  Anyway…down below I got three close-up views of this. The detail is actually pretty crazy, so click and zoom.

Probably not the worst, but very close…

November 20th, 2007 | Category: Hip-Hop

Amnesia sent the link to this in an e-mail. Holy shit. This is a PERFECT example of how not to rap. How do these people not know they suck?

*Quote from Amnesia: “The funniest thing I have ever heard in my life….if you can handle
it listen to the lyrics….    OMG!”*

Hahahahah!  That is baaaaad.

Some artwork for the masses…

Melrose Murals (Graffiti)

Yo…I stayed out in L.A. on Saturday night, after a wedding…so of course, since I was so close, I had to take a trip out to Melrose to check the latest on the CBS walls. For anyone that doesn’t know, CBS is a graffiti crew from Los Angeles. They have pretty much been the biggest presence since at least the early 90′s. Although there’s many meanings for the letters, “Can’t Be Stopped” is probably the most used (as I think it’s the original).

Click either the image above or the one below for bigger versions. I took the pictures myself and then sewed them together with Photoshop this morning. I kept the images pretty large so that they’d print nice (if anyone’s interested in doing so). Zoom should also be good for you detail finatics.

While out there taking pics, I actually saw some fooz out there doing some new work, which is a first to actually see the pieces in the alley being painted. Axis, Anger, and others. …so for anyone that might be headed out that way, check out the latest work…take a pic (or pics) and send em to me. :D

peace,

*I have some more photos…but I gotta sew them together….most likely tomorrow.

Alborosie’s “Sound Killa” 7inch…

November 16th, 2007 | Category: Reggae

Alborosie-sound killa

The above picture is of the ‘B’ side because the other side’s print was way too light.

Anyway…if you’re into conscious reggae, this is a must get for you. In his usual style, the tracks got a nice sample of an older popular chorus…this time it’s ‘Ring The Alarm’ and, again, as usual, he’s done it proper. If you haven’t heard Alborosie yet, it’s my recomendation to grab up anything he’s released….starting with the oldest (I think) release I have from him, which is with Ky-Mani Marley doin a refix of ‘Burnin & Lootin’. That joint is on fire.

After hearing this joint, along with his others, I’m sure you’ll be looking forward to his first full-length like I already am.

peace

*Almost forgot: This is on the ‘Ganja Smuggling’ riddim. Yes, Eek-A-Mouse’s jam…heheheh.

Bob Marley & The Wailers-Exodus 30th Anniversary Edition released…

Bob Marley-Exodus 30th Anniversary Edition

Since this is an album that everyone and their mom has heard and knows about….a review seems pointless. This is more of a ‘heads-up’ that it’s been released….for those hardcore Bob collectors or those who haven’t spent the time to pick up one of the many versions of ‘Exodus’ that have been released in the past.

Here’s a little description from Island Records:
Island Records celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the masterpiece that is Bob Marley’s Exodus, which was originally released in June of 1977. He recorded the Exodus album in exile in the UK, having escaped an assassination attempt in Jamaica. Exodus transformed Marley’s career. A recording of extraordinary creative maturity, the album resonated with audiences around the world. In the UK alone it stayed on the chart for 56 consecutive weeks and included three massive hit singles. Bob Marley was established as the Third World’s first superstar, a legacy that survives thirty years after the album’s release. Island.
