zOnk’s BMX damage pics update!…

Jesus…even I’m surprised at this beauty. Looks like the bruised kidney aspect is fillin in nicely. The road rash on top of the bruise isn’t even there anymore due to that bruises color. I didn’t post anything yesterday because I couldn’t walk…seriously. Very painful day yesterday…even sittin on the couch was too much. I had to lay on my stomach on my bed most of the day. I took a Vicodin (750mg) and didn’t even notice it. If I had insurance (fuck you, cheap-ass America!), I’d of been at the doctor quick.
Anyway…pain is much better today..still a bitch though. Here’s another closeup of the shin, right after I got out the shower on Monday. Shit would NOT stop bleeding…

That red line above is actually part of the cut too…the pedal just hadn’t dug all the way in yet. That little white’ish area is fat, I guess. I wanted to stop the bleeding long enough to get some of that in the pic. Mission accomplished.

zOnk oNe retires from BMX…

Fuck man….it really feels like a hook has been put into my right kidney and gravity is keeping a steady tugging feeling on that hook. My shit is hurt…again. I just went out for a ride on my cursed bmx (this fall makes 3 very painful falls, all of which were absolutely the bikes fault), and as I went to cross the street, halfway across, my chain popped off sending me over the handlebars…again. The first time this happened was years ago while I was living in Chico. I would go out to this park called Bidwell and ‘race’ one of the trails…which was great…until the time that I got off the trail and onto the road, decided to see what top speed on the street was, and POW! ..on my final pedal before coasting, my chain popped and I shot over the bars. That time I was going as fast as I could pedal and I was bloody everywhere. I also got a quarter-sized hole in my right knee (which needed stiches, and opened up repeatedly for about six months), and bounced my head off the street, leaving me with a half-grapefruit sized bump on the back of my head. That shit sucked.
Next big fall was last summer (2007) I was down at the beach and once again, decided to take off fast…once I got up some decent speed..BAM!..over the bars and basically broke my collarbone and jacked my left shoulder. I still can’t sleep on my left side…
For those that would blame this chain malfunction on the owner of the bike not taking care to keep the chain tight enough, I gotta say you is dead wrong…hehehe. Two of my friends worked in bike shops and both inspected the bike and said it was set up perfectly. Basically, there was no reason for that chain popping off. It’s happened a lot of times, luckily for me, most of them were pretty painless. This time I’m way too hurt for such a shitty reason. I swore off my bike last summer after the collarbone incident, but this seals the deal. It’s off to Craigslist for that bike. Time for me to get an adult sized bike anyway…

*My leg isn’t the worst part, but the gash and blood make it the better photo. That cut in the above pic is about 2 inches long and a quarter-inch wide.
I hope I feel better soon..I can barely sit at the computer right now..
Movie: “Body Of War”…

A couple of nights ago, I sat down to eat some dinner and turned on the tube to be entertained. My choice was PBS (public broadcasting system), as it often is, and there was a story about this movie called “Body Of War”. The show showed clips from the movie, as well as interviews with the directors (Phil Donahue & Ellen Spiro). Let me just say that this was one hell of a emotionally charged show….and I was thinking to myself, “wow, this isn’t even the movie…just a show about the movie”.
Basically the movie is about the life of an injured soldier that returns from Iraq paralized from the nipples down. I wanted to do a little write up and try to bring a little attention to this film because I think that many people forget that the numbers we hear, regarding the fallen soldiers in Iraq, do not include the large number of soldiers that are severely injured. This film is an inside look at how drastically one of these soldiers lives and their families lives are affected by their injuries. It’s also a story of how this particular soldier has decided to speak out against the war.
Like I said, just the show about the movie was very moving, so if you get the chance, watch the movie. I know it’s easier to bury your head in the sand and pretend that ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is great, but sometimes reality does peeps some good.

R.I.P. Mikey Dread…

The ‘Dread At The Controls’, Mikey Dread passed away last Saturday, March 15th. I’m posting this a little late due to the fact that I was out of town for most of the week, but I definitely wanted to take the time to post a little “Rest In Power” in remembrance of the reggae icon.
*”Radio disc jock Mikey Dread is dead. He succumbed to a brain tumour late yesterday afternoon at his family home in Connecticut, USA at the age of 54. Born Michael Campbell in Port Antonio, Jamaica, he distinguished himself as an extraordinary studio engineer and presenter at the now defunct Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) where he came to prominence in the 1970s as “The Dread-the-Control Tower”, the name of the late night show he presented at a time when reggae music was scoffed at by many.”

“Everything’s Cool” Recommended Viewing…

Yo…I gotta recommend this movie to every person living in the United States. I know, you’re lookin at the coverart and thinkin, “another shockumentary about how we’re all doomed”….but the best part of this movie is not the message about Global Warming. After watching this, the aspect of the movie that was most important was how news and information flow to the public is controlled. I guess you either believe we’re told everything we need to know and honestly, or that we’re misled and lied to. I hope that by now, most people are hip to the facts about Global Warming and the negative affect we’re (mankind) having on the planet. Anyway, this movie was done well and, like I said, I’d recommend everyone watches this. If you think you know everything you need to about Global Warming, cool, but this movie is more about what happened to the flow of information to the public, the misinformation campaign, etc., since the first congressional hearing (about Global Warming) in 1987.
Cool movie, lot’s of info, but very frustrating. Check it out.
