Rialto Light Lager…

April 23rd, 2008 | Category: Drinks

rialto_light_lager-cap-2008 I saw this stuff for sale at Trader Joe’s a while back and decided to grab a sixer and test it out. The sign said “Compare to Corona” and they were dead on. If you like Corona, you’ll dig this stuff as well. Basically, this is what I’d consider the perfect Summer beer. It’s light, which means it’s great for drinking on a hot day, and has a great flavor. Like I said, this is basically the El Salvadorian version of Corona. The best part is that a beer that tastes this good and is imported, is priced so damn low. For a measley $3.49 you can grab yourself a six pack. As far as I know, this is only available at Trader Joe’s, as I’ve never seen or heard of it before. The only drawback is that the sign at TJ’s also said, “when they’re gone, they’re gone.” That bums me out because with Summer approaching, it would be nice to know that these beers would be readily available, especially for that dirt cheap price.
Verdict: If you see these available, make the purchase. Definitely worth it. Then, drink ice cold while playing horseshoes or bacce ball. :)
*If anyone sees these for sale somewhere else, let me know where and how much they were.

Atmosphere-When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold…

I just got a chance to bump this new album and so I wanted to put up a review quicklike. To be honest I didn’t have too high of expectations about this one to begin with. That ended up being a pretty solid way to go into listening to it. I don’t want to bash on Atmosphere, or Slug in particular, and I don’t want to say the same cliche’ “but you gotta hear their old stuff”, but that’s the first thing that comes to mind. It seems that the albums are getting less inspired and providing more of an old recipe that’s lost its’ ‘booyow’.
This album isn’t particularly ‘bad’ in any specific way, it just doesn’t really have anything too special about it either. If you’ve been into his last couple albums, then I’m sure you’ll be into this one as well. If you’ve been one of those peeps that’s been waiting for something to ‘grab you’ like that old shiz for the past couple of albums, you’ll most likely feel ‘blah’ about this one too.
Luckily, Slug still brings the down-to-earth lyrics and lays them down in that same dependable way. Oh, and clever title…I dig it.
Word. I think that’s all I got about this one.

Zonk One Presents “Smooth Vs. Rough: Reggae Duets” Mix…

Hehehe…don’t ask me how, but I’m actually late to posting about my own new mix. This was done about a month ago and for some reason, I kept forgetting to getting to it and posting it up. So,…I got a new mix out. Of course this is only available at the finest of shops right now, but it’ll be for sale online as soon as Shockout.com opens their online store. Hopefully this comes sooner than later.
This mix is a lot different than the last one I put out (Strictly Conscious Vol. 1). This mix moves from song to song much slower which gives each song on it more time to play. This mix isn’t a riddim mix either. This is just straight up dope reggae duets back to back.
I’ve had a few people ask what the title means, so I’ll explain here. Basically every track on this mix has a smooth voiced singjay paired with a rough voiced dancehall D.J. So…smooth vs. rough. Get it?

Tarrus Riley “Who’s Gonna Save Us”…

April 19th, 2008 | Category: Reggae

I had to post this up after hearing this new track by Tarrus Riley called “Who’s Gonna Save Us”. This joint has got mad flavor…bringing the hip-hop sample from A Tribe Called Quest, a bangin beat, and the vocals by both Tarrus and Sizzla…and, of course, CONSCIOUS lyrics. Luckily for everyone, Sizzla actually comes correct on this one, keeping the high pitch, whiney stuff to a minimum. (Speaking of which, how did ‘Fizzla’ get the idea that anyone likes that shit?) Anyway, if you need a new track to spin up at the club (for you D.J.’s), or you just want a nice track to bump in your ride, mp3 player, etc., this is one I’d like to recommend. I even found a player to embed that had the track. Peep this shiz out!

*Thx to DJ Pauze (Shockout.com) for letting me know bout this joint.

What’s The Hold Up?

April 18th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

treeSince being appointed almost two years ago, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne hasn’t listed a single new species under the Endangered Species Act — even though federal biologists warn that at least 280 native species could disappear forever without such protections.

Kempthorne — a federal employee whose chief responsibility is to protect America’s wildlife and other natural treasures — has delayed or denied vital protections for polar bears, jaguars and other imperiled wildlife. On the other hand, Kempthorne has been quick to approve harmful oil and gas drilling and other development in sensitive wildlife habitat.

So why isn’t he being held accountable? Join me in urging Congress to hold hearings on Kempthorne’s failure to protect our wildlife. Take action online at:

http://action.defenders.org/holdup

It’s the Secretary of Interior’s job to protect our wildlife and wild places. And it’s Congress’ job to hold the Secretary accountable when he fails to do his job.

Thanks for celebrating Earth Day by helping to protect our wildlife and ensure responsible management of our natural resources.

*The above was sent to me in an email, and I felt it was worth posting up for peeps to check out. If you’re interested, check out those links above. Facts like these remind me of how disappointing public officials can be.

Paypal Donations Added…

April 17th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

paypal_verified-logoThis may not be too exciting for anyone but myself, but since this is my blog, I guess I get to post anyway…hehehe. Since my blog is pretty much done, and just needs posts to keep it interesting (the layout and functions work well for me), I added a Paypal donation button. I know there are plenty of people out there that frequent sites and feel like contributing to that sites expenses (server costs, upkeep, beers to review, etc.). My reasoning was ‘why not?’
Also, since I added a WordPress plugin (Bob Marley Quotes), people might love the plugin and decide to kick me a dollar or two for it. For those that don’t know what a WordPress plugin is, right now as I type this, my plugin puts up random quotes from Mr. Marley in the top righthand corner. Right now it says, “We, Jah people, can make it work”. Nice, right?
So..this post is just to bring a little attention to the new donation button that’s gonna be sitting under the Ads By Google on the lower right and the plugin page. It looks like this:
