Recomended: Charlie Wilson’s War…

First off, I know how I felt about seeing that Julia Roberts was in this, which is why it took me so long to actually sit down to watch this, but even with her in it, this flick is dope. I’m just not too big on Julia. Anyway, the other two main characters, played by Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman, make this a must watch. The onscreen chemistry between these two is friggin hilarious. I was seriously impressed with almost every encounter these two had during the course of the film, especially the first time they met in Charlie Wilson’s office.
For those that don’t know, this movie is based on true events and is about the United States’ roll in aiding, training, and funding the Afghan Muhajideen to help them fight the Soviet Union’s military occupation of Afghanistan.
I have to say this movie and cast do an excellent job of telling this important bit of recent history and keeping it entertaining all the while. I think this is an important story for Americans (and others) to know to help them understand more of why the Middle East is such a complicated problem.
Anyway, big props to Hanks and Hoffman for making this so enjoyable. Get your learn on and be entertained by this one.
