Atmosphere-Sad Clown Bad Spring 12…

May 17th, 2008 | Category: Hip-Hop

atmosphere-sad_clown_bad_spring-coverI just had to post this up quicklike to let peeps hear this track that I’m diggin off of Atmosphere’s latest release “Sad Clown Bad Spring 12″. So far, I’m liking this EP a lot more than his last full-length (When Life Gives You Lemons..). And the first track is what’s really grabbed my attention….with a great sample from Aswad’s track “Dub Fire”. That track “Dub Fire” is probably my all time favorite dub track and I’ll be listening to that one for a long time to come. Anyway, Slug’s got a nice delivery over this smart adaptation of the original dub track. The track is called “Less One”….so enough typing…check it out:

Recommended Movie: “Music Within”…

May 17th, 2008 | Category: Movies/TV

music within-poster
I have had this movie for quite a while and kept putting off watching it because the plot summary that I read interested me slightly, but not enough to motivate me to watch it right away. Now that I finally did sit down to watch this, I’m very glad that I did. In my opinion, this movie has a certain ‘Forest Gumpy’ type feel to it…dealing with some very serious subject matter, but all the while keeping a smart humor about it. I think that the actors (Ron Livingston, Melissa George, and Michael Sheen) did a great job as well. The movie does have some elements that are (or should be) pretty depressing and the fact that it’s based on a true story makes it all the more inspiring and amazing.
Basically, this is about an activist whose efforts eventually lead to the creation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There were times during the movie that I think anyone with a conscience would have to be offended or pissed…it’s sometimes surprising how rediculous some people treat others.
Anyway, I can definitely recommend this movie. I thought it was a great hour and a half spent.

Lyrics From This Song Sound Like They Were Written Today…

May 16th, 2008 | Category: Hip-Hop

geto boys-we cant be stopped-1991I was just listening to my music library on ‘random’ and this track popped on. Once it started, I remembered it right away and had to pay close attention to the lyrics to see how they hold up. Well, Bush Sr. was president back then and the Iraq situation was in full affect….so give this a listen and check out how far we’ve progressed. This track was released in 1991. It’s like we’re in a time loop or somethin.

Richie Spice: “Gideon Boot” Released…

May 15th, 2008 | Category: Reggae

I was pretty excited to get a hold of this album and give it a listen. I mean, this dude has come correct plenty of times in the past… especially when he blessed our ears with ‘Earth A Run Red.’
Maybe I should try harder not to expect great things from musicians that have provided great things in the past (although I feel that I do try), but this latest effort from Mr. Spice offers less than a spectacular tracklist. It’s not altogether ‘bad’, but it doesn’t provide those ‘bangers’ that we’ve come to expect from the dude who burst onto the scene with, once again, ‘Earth A Run Red.’
There are a few tracks that do stand out on this album. First of which is track number two which is the title track ‘Gideon Boot.’ For me personally, this is the strongest song on the album. I wish more of the tracks had the ingredients this one does; a positive message, a nice riddim, and a stand-out sound when combined. The next track that’s a keeper on this one is ‘Gettin Harder’, which is why many people have probably heard it on recent mixtapes or spun at their local reggae club. The last track on the album is pretty nice as well. It’s titled ‘Hang On’. It’s got a slower tempo and keeps with the conscious messages that we expect from Spice. I think that the biggest factor working against this album is that it doesn’t offer much as far as ‘new’. Most of the tracks are kind of forgettable, and don’t make you want to reach for that volume knob. Luckily for us, this dude is still young and we can expect him to be making new music for a while to come still…hopefully learning from mistakes made.

Terrible Accident On The Autobahn!…

May 15th, 2008 | Category: Funny/Etc.

I almost cried when I saw this picture. It is absolutely gut wrenching.

It shows the importance of being properly strapped in.

A friend sent this photo of a horrible highway accident in Germany.
The picture may be kind of hard to take for some of you.
If you look closely you can see what appear to be some survivors of
the accident still in the wreckage. Although the picture is quite
graphic, it makes you realize how quickly our loved ones can be taken
from us.

My friend stayed on the scene to help and even though he performed
mouth to mouth on quite a few of them, none apparently survived.

(Brace yourself . . . Click on image).

Malt Liquor Review…

May 14th, 2008 | Category: Drinks

I found this posted at The Wave Magazine and felt compelled to post it up for all to see. Be sure to click ‘Read More’ below for the best part:

Malt Liquor Review

We asked a widely published wine critic and Napa Valley regular to closely examine some of the finest malt liquors a $1.19 can buy.
By: Tim Teichgraeber

Malt liquor looks like beer, smells like beer, and—aside from the fact that it may be a little more bland and a little more sweet—more or less tastes like beer. Sounds harmless enough, but don’t be fooled: Malt liquor is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I call it “sucker punch” because it tends to sneak up on you.

I guess you could say that malt liquor is like a beer that makes you want to break stuff. Weighing in at somewhere between 5.5 and 8% alcohol by volume, it can be twice as strong as regular beer, which falls somewhere between 4 and 5.5%. While a reasonable person might say, “Well, maybe I’ll just have two malt liquors instead of my usual three regular beers,” it doesn’t usually seem to work that way. Instead, folks drink about the same amount of malt liquor as they would beer, then start breaking stuff.

Malt liquor is like beer without the cultural sensitivity. If those bikini-chick Keystone and Bud Light ads drive you nuts, you should definitely steer clear of the malt liquor aisle. Some of the packaging is tasteless enough to make Jack Kent Cooke spin in his grave.

Mickey’s, the belligerent Irishman-themed brand—and the only one that seems to appeal to a broad base of white malt-liquor drinkers, also known as “swiggers”—is on the lower end of the alcohol content spectrum at 5.6%. Whether it’s because the Mickey’s brewery staff has a social conscience or doesn’t want their brew to be perceived as weak, Heileman doesn’t print the alcohol content on the bottle. Read more
