Movie: “Meet Dave”…

I know that many, if not most, people out there have given up on Eddie Murphy movies being funny. I’ll say that I was on the fence, and definitely didn’t expect much from another sci-fi comedy attempt (remember ‘Pluto Nash’?). Luckily, this movie was a big step back in the right direction for Eddie. We were laughing after about one whole minute of play time. Seriously..hehehe. I’m not gonna say that this is hilarious on some ‘Grandma’s Boy’ tip, but it was really entertaining. Lot’s of really silly laughs that continued through to the credits. This movies isn’t going to win any awards, but who cares, right? Like I said, this movie is just a silly comedy that should be viewed with that in mind. I say, grab yourself some beers/wine/booze then sit back and watch this with at least a slight buzz and an open mind…heheheh.

Reggae: Perfect “Born Dead With Life”…

Well, Perfect is back with a new album…and unlike his last full-length, this one is not just a compilation of singles that were previously released. That makes this his first ‘real’ LP and concept album. Slavery is the recurring theme throughout the album, as the majority of tracks deal with it.
Firstly, I gotta say that the artwork for this album is killer. I’m loving it. This coverart isn’t the same old simple, photoshopped in ten minutes kinda thing that so many artists seem to choose nowadays. The style is dope, and there is plenty of detail to keep curious minds busy. Great job…
Now onto the actual content of the album. Although this is Perfect’s first ‘real’ album, I don’t think it’s as strong as it could/should have been. Too many of the tracks that made it onto this album seem like they should have been the ones left off of it. There’s not too many that ‘grab you by the boo-boo’ and demand the ‘rewind selecta’ that I expect from a solid release. I guess I just expected more…and expectations sometimes guarantee a let down. The album has a very mellow tone and speed to it, and many of the tracks tend to gently call out “background music.” It’s not that the songs are entirely bad, I just don’t have the urge to play them loud or put em on repeat. My picks for best tracks are; 04-30 pieces, 07-Journey ft Chezidek, and 15-WTC 911. For me, most of the rest are either much to slow, R&B’ish, or just forgettable.
Honestly, I hate to give this album such a ‘blah’ review, but I gotta be honest. I’m sure though, that for reggae fans that really love a slower paced album, there’s gonna be tracks that you’ll enjoy on this.
Here’s a track from the album. This is Perfect and features Chezidek Track is called “Journey”…
Enjoy
Movie: Your Mommy Kills Animals…

Although this movie was put out a while back, I never got a chance to watch it. Mostly because the one time I sat down to watch it, the intro was so graphic, my girlfriend said no way. Well, I finally took the time to sit through this and I’m glad I did. Although, I must say…there are many scenes that I would have been happy to have not scene. Since this is a documentary about the animal rights movement, you are guaranteed to see some very troubling images of animals in distress (or worse).
I’m a big animal lover, and although watching this was difficult at times, I feel that I definitely learned something from watching it. This film does a very good job of staying objective and show both sides to the story. Since 911, the labeling of some ‘animal rights’ groups as being the number one terrorist threat to the country (usa) certainly deserves to be examined. This film does a good job of showing the many opinions that surround this issue and seems to take special care to stay out of the business of showing us what to think. Instead, they just show us statements from parties involved with the issues.
I had heard quite a few troubling facts about PETA in the past and hearing them again here just re-enforce my previous opinion that they aren’t the ‘good’ organization that most people think/thought of them as. Also, the fact that the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) was such a rich and powerful organization and wasn’t tied to any local Humane Societies was especially troubling. According to the film, the HSUS contributes no money or support to any of the many local Humane Societies that actually provide shelter and rescue to animals. What a pile of shit that is. Who would be sending donations if they knew their money wasn’t going to care for local animal rescue, spay/neuter programs, etc.? For more info on it: CLICK
This movie brings up some scary issues. Freedom of speech….extremism….corporate corruption. What’s scary is…even posting on a simple blog about this type of thing seems like it could end up in unwarranted suspicion of said blogger. Shit, I better stop now…heheheh.
Here’s a trailer to give you a better idea of what to expect. Check it out…then check out the movie. Get your learn on:
Alborosie – “Still Blazing”…
Another dope track from Alborosie. Kinda crazy that two of the dopest conscious reggae artists putting out works today aren’t Jamaican born (Alborosie [Italy] & Gentleman [Germany]). Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for this dude touring through your town. Peace…and enjoy.
Ellen DeGeneres Found Dead?…
Did you hear Ellen DeGeneres died?
They found her face down in Ricki Lake.
Hehehe…My bro-in-law busted out this joke while chillin around the campfire and I hadda share.
*On a side note: Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I highly recommend everyone see it before they die. Awesome.
