Well…before I even take a sip…let me just say that this stuff is d a r k…..hehehe…like a stout is supposed to be, but since it’s pretty warm tonight, I’m not entirely stoked on the dark thickness of this stuff I’m about to drink. And yet, I’m entirely excited to sample another of the “Stone” family.
Upon taking my first sip, I’m reminded of why this one is called a Stout. It’s got that semi-flat and bitter combo that stouts tend to posses. What’s strange about this one though is that while bitter, I’m tasting a hint of some sort of sweet accents. I can’t explain it….as I’ve written before, I’m not a beer snob/connoisseur with a wealth of bullshit…COUGH!…um..pretty adjectives to describe beers. I guess I should say that I’m not a huge fan of stouts. Not saying that I don’t like them, but I definitely like to pick and choose when I do battle with them. This is one that I could/would engage in indulging again. Once again, Stone Brewing has succeeded in brewing up some good shtuff. It almost….almost, reminds me of that Young’s Chocolate Stout from England. If you’re a stout fan, this is definitely worth checking out. If you’re an occasional stout drinker, then this should also be on your to-drink list. If you don’t know what stout is, but want to try the breed out….grab one of these, as I think this is a nice way to wade into the category.
This stuff weighs in at a hefty 10.8% Alc/Vol. and is a ‘limited Spring 2008 release’….so get em while you can find them.
