Panacea - A Mind On A Ship Through Time - 2008
This isn’t the timeliest of reviews, but nevertheless, as I always say, there’s plenty of peeps out there that don’t have access to absolutely everything that drops, so here we go.
For those that don’t know who Panacea is, where you been foo?! They were responsible for dropping one of the coolest, chilled out, enjoyable hip-hop albums that was released for the year 2007 called ‘The Scenic Route’. I recommend that you grab that one and get familiar with these cats through that album, then peep their older stuff…then move forward to this one. This album is definitely nice, but by no means ‘their best’ and comes in second or third to some of their previous efforts. Some tracks like ‘Vandalism’ really make this album rebumpable. Yes, rebumpable is a word…a hip-hop word meaning worth listening to more than once. Booyow! You just learned something. :)
For one thing, the album art is dope. If you skipped past it and went right to the meat of this review, take a look back upward and take that shizzle in. It’s good to see some traditional art on albums nowadays…instead of that uber-popular trend of mashing a bunch of shapes of the same color together and layering, layering, layering. *It can look very cool, but traditional is still nice.
Anyway, this album is very spacey and laid back. If you are into mellow rhymes over ethereal beats, this one is for you. This is some perfect bump in the background while you chill on the patio and zone out on your local flora. Burn some incense while you’re out there too….I recommend ‘Butt Naked’ from your local incense creator (none of that mass produced cheese).
