Reggae: Anthony B – Rise Up – 2009

For any of the folks that I know, that were introduced to Anthony B’s music back in the 90′s and as a result became much more interested in the genre as a whole, this is a welcome release. This album seems to have the feel of some of his 90′s releases and it’s great to listen to this and welcome back ‘the good old Anthony B’. I don’t like to diss artists in my reviews, so I try to stay as close to the positive side as possible. In my opinion, some of Mr. B’s previous releases haven’t been up to par with his original fire that he brought with those 90′s releases. I’m all for an artist expanding and changing, as long as the music stays dope. This album, “Rise Up”, brings a lot of that magic back to the music. I have said it before (about other artists), and be prepared for me sayin it in the future, this isn’t as good as the old stuff, but it’s definitely worth picking up. I highly recommend this one to all you ‘conscious dancehall’ listeners out there. Which, in my opinion, is the only kind of dancehall worth listening to.
For any of you that have listened to my mix “Ghetto Skyline” you have already heard one of the tracks called “Stop Fight Reggae”. If you’re a fan of Luckie D, Horace Andy, or Chezidek you’re in for a treat, since they are all featured on this album.
So, big up to Anthony B on this release. I’m lookin forward to seeing what he brings us next. If this album is any indication of his direction, whatever is up next could be the next timeless classic that we’ve all gotta get. Here’s another track off the album that I especially liked:
