The new album came out October 12th on Rhymesayers Entertainment label (Digital version was out as of Sept). It looks like a full length album, but is labeled as a double EP…?? Seems like a double EP would be a full length album…?? The album is 12 songs and 41 minutes in length. Five years ago Slug started touring with a live band like The Roots. You can hear the band in this album and it makes the production sound dope. The track “Americareful” has a dope reggae vibe to it, similar to the track “Less One” on the Sad Clown Bad Spring album. Of course, there is a track about droppin a 50 dollar bill on the bar and a story of the events that unfold afterward titled “Scalp”. What would a Slug album be without a drunk story track? The track “The Best Day” describes a positive way to look at shitty times… There is a lot of storytelling on this album. There is a sad track about Slug telling a tale of a childhood sweetheart that gave him play and had him sprung with emotional investments, but never let him hit it…only to give up the nappy dugout to his best friend on their first date. He says that “he was the one that showed her what a penis was..!!” The track “The Major Leagues” is a story about Slug losing a friend to drugs, which really hits home with me and makes me appreciate the track on a serious level. The production on “Hope” is dope… What I like about this album is that he does not bring up or cry about Lucy once… give thanks…
This is one of the better Ep’s that he has put out there and has twice as many tracks as all the others. There are a lot more ill tracks than wack tracks on this one.
My advice is to give it a listen; if you are a fan of Slug, chances are you will think its dope…
Slug says that this is an EP to keep hungry fans appetite for music at bay till the next full album drops…(Spring 2011)
