Reggae/Dubstep: Nate Mars Ft. Jahdan – Above And Beyond Dem…
What up folks? I got an email from Mr. SevenhertZ yesterday with an mp3 to check out. It was this track by Nate Mars featuring Jahdan called “Above and Beyond Dem”. It is one of those crossover tracks that could fit into both reggae and dubstep genres. Pretty cool joint, peep game:
I’ve listened to the track a few times already and it’s grown on me. One thing that I don’t dig about it is the double-time sections with Jahdan vocalizing (example is from 30 – 56 seconds). In my opinion, if Jahdan were to stick to the slower singjay style (like in the chorus) he’d be 100% solid. I’m just not a fan of his particular sound and delivery when he moves to the rugged sped up style. Anyway, a cool track and big-up to 7Htz for bringin it to our attention.

Big up to my man DJ Boomshot for introducing me to this tune. I’m lovin this track from Joggo featuring Jah Decko called “Caught Ya!”. Check out the niceness and pass it along… (*The intro sound quality isn’t the best…but let it play and the full audio and video kick in):
Boomshot has been introducing folks to quality reggae music for quite a while now. I actually became familiar with his reggae show long before I met him back in Chico, California. He’s now residing in Maui and has a weekly show on Q103 where he continues to bring the boom sound to the massive. I’m planning on posting reminder links to his shows here and again, with links to download them.
I’m definitely looking forward to more stuff from Joggo and Jah Decko too. Boom!

Reggae – Alborosie – Rudie Don’t Fear (Zion Gate Riddim)…
If you haven’t heard this jam from Alborosie titled ‘Rudie Don’t Fear’, it’s about time you did. Check it:
Alborosie’s ‘Rudie Don’t Fear’ rides over the Zion Gate Riddim produced by John John Records. Too bad it’s not a ‘real’ video, but better to be able to hear it, than not at all. Too bad the sound quality isn’t 100% either. Just imagine a crisp sound…then buy it.

RIP Sugar Minott…
RIP Sugar Minott. Sugar passed away this past Saturday (July 10, 2010). Here’s a couple of examples of his timeless contributions to reggae music:

No commentsReggae – Naptali ‘Long Journey’ 2010…
Reggae artist Naptali released his album called ‘Long Journey’ in march this year (2010). It’s been a while since I gave a heads-up on a new reggae album, and this one was good enough to motivate me. Overall, you can expect a very mellow one-drop filled ride on this one. Naptali has a smooth delivery and it’s laced over smooth bass-lines and that ‘new roots’ sound that many of us dig.
He kind of reminds me of Midnite, but not in the chanting sense, just that it’s such a relaxing sound and just generally laid back vibe. Maybe a mix between Midnite and Warrior King or something. There’s 14 tracks to experience on this and some guest artists as well (Luciano, Lutan Fyah, Arofat).
All in all, it’s an album worth checking out. Be sure to peep the track “Fire Burn” too. It’s one of the more hype tracks on there…a little more upbeat tempo.
