Maharaja Imperial India Pale Ale From Avery Brewing Co…

avery_brewing_co-logoFirst reaction: This is some good I.P.A. After taking my second sip, I can say that my first reaction was on point. This has that great hoppy flavor that any good I.P.A. should have. Just as a note: I pour the beers I’m tasting into a glass to get the full effect, as far as flavor goes and in keeping with what any half-decent beer drinker would tell you. This oxygenates the brew and helps bring out the flavor. I’m a fan.
Anyway, this stuff is smooth as silk, and drinks quite nicely. This is definitely one brew that I’d like to have access to at any time…too bad it’s seasonal (available Mar. through Aug.) Coming in at 10.49% Alc. by Vol., this stuff packs a hellova lot of alcohol without giving much of a hint of it while being consumed. Like I said before, this stuff is smooth. This is beer I can recommend. Pick up one or two of these and you’ll be thankful you did.
Also, check out the cool label. It’s always nice to see that a brewery takes the time to get an artist to bust out something eye-catching and original to go along with their brews. Check it out–>

First Post About Beer: Anderson Valley Brewing-Imperial I.P.A…

April 03rd, 2008 | Category: Drinks

Anderson Valley Brewing Company-Imperial IPA CapWell, I don’t know how I’ve been writing this blog for this long without ever deciding to talk about one of my favorite things: Beer. After all these years spent enjoying the stuff, I figured that I should at least make some posts about some of the better brews or special seasonals that I get to imbibe. Lucky for me, I live within walking distance of a great liquor store called “Hi-Time Wine Cellars“. This is the only place I’ve been with a full walk-in beer cooler that holds a massive selection of beers from all over the world, plus more micro-brews than I’ve seen elsewhere…all cold, all the time. Ahhh….
Anyway, on to my first pick. Lucky for me, Anderson Valley Brewing Company, out of Boonville, CA, introduced this 20th Anniversary Imperial IPA (Inda Pale Ale, for those that don’t know). As you’ll soon learn, I’m partial to I.P.A.’s….meaning, I have waded through the countless brew styles and decided that my all time favorite is the India Pale Ale. It’s a very ‘hoppy’ beer, and if you don’t know what that means, you’ll find out as soon as you sip on one (ipa)….hehehe. This Anniversary Imperial is different from AVBC’s regularly offered Hop Ottin’ IPA. One major difference is the punch that the Imperial packs. Hop Ottin’ = 7% alcohol vs. Imperial = 8.7%. Almost all IPA’s have a high alcohol content as it’s part of the reason they are called India Pale Ales. Back in the day, brewers needed to find a way to ship their beers long distances, which took a long time, without them spoiling. They found that a high alcohol content kept the beers drinkable, and delicious. (some history for those that don’t know)
If you get the chance….buy yourself a couple 22′s of this brew. It’s very nice. And since it’s only gonna be around for a small part of the year….that makes it all the more special. …Plus a nice lookin label and the ‘feel good’ fact that the brewery is solar-powered :)
